Timed to follow the release of the annual update of the Welsh Government's Together for Health, Cancer Delivery Plan to 2016, this seminar provided an opportunity to discuss progress made and remaining challenges for the next four years, following the extension of the Plan to 2020.
Sessions included discussion on improving prevention and detection, access to treatment, and delivery of care and outcomes, as well as considering the quality of support for survivors and those in end of life care.
Delegates also discussed specific challenges including how to reduce inequalities both in the risk of developing cancer and in survival rates; next steps for integrating cancer services with support provided by the third sector; and priority areas for cancer research.
The seminar brought together key policymakers - including Welsh Government officials, Assembly Members and regulators in Wales - with stakeholders including GP and allied health professional representatives, Local Health Boards, end of life and social care providers, community health councils and other patient groups, pharmacies, academics, charities and other interested parties.
