This seminar discussed the way forward for policy and practice to tackle inequalities in Wales.
It brought out latest analysis of underlying causes, and assessed the practical challenges that different strategic options would pose for delivery organisations such as councils, Local Health Boards and schools - together with the impact on communities and vulnerable groups.
The conference was timed to follow the National Assembly elections and as a new Welsh Government began its term. It took place in the context of the Is Wales Fairer report from the Equality and Human Rights Commission in Wales, which set out seven challenges - including in the areas of educational attainment, fair recruitment practices, housing conditions, access to justice, mental health services, neglect in care settings and abuse in the community.
The conference brought together policymakers from both the Welsh and UK Governments, National Assembly for Wales and regulatory bodies along with key stakeholders and interest groups including local authorities, employers’ bodies, health and social care providers, emergency services, schools, colleges and early education groups, legal professionals, charities and voluntary groups as well as academics and commentators.
