This seminar focused on the opportunities and challenges for the creative industries in Wales.
It followed the final report from the Welsh Affairs Committee inquiry into Broadcasting in Wales - which examined the suitability of current funding and governance arrangements, along with the cultural value of Welsh language broadcasting and the economic impact of the sector. It also came in light of the UK Government White Paper on the next BBC Charter.
The conference brought together stakeholders from across the media and wider creative sectors with policymakers from both the Welsh and UK Governments, and the National Assembly for Wales.
Delegates considered options for supporting the growth of Wales’ creative economy, along with the way ahead for investment and innovation in content creation and distribution across all forms of media, as consumer requirements and technology constantly evolve.
Sessions also examined the issue of plurality of content that is ‘by Wales, for Wales’, particularly the extent to which news output - across print, online, radio and television - reflects the increasingly devolved political settlement.
