This seminar was an opportunity to discuss the future for the health and social care workforce in Wales. It was timed to follow Qualifications Wales’ review of Health, Social Care and Childcare qualifications - the draft of which proposed a new suite of qualifications for the sector - and was scheduled as the Nurse Staffing Levels Act, which sets out minimum staffing requirements, comes into force. It also came in light of measures outlined in the 2016 Programme for Government, including increased investment in training NHS staff and the creation of a single body to commission and provide training and education for all healthcare professionals.

Planned sessions explored workforce planning across NHS Wales, including training and continuing professional development and funding for workforce development. Further discussion focused on tackling staff recruitment and retention challenges, the changing roles for health professionals such as community pharmacists, and the potential extension of the Nurse Staffing Levels Act.
