Delegates at this timely seminar assessed the progress in delivering the Welsh Government's Building a Brighter Future: Early Years and Childcare Plan - setting out priorities over the next ten years for improving the quality of childcare and early and primary education in Wales, as well as encouraging strong and positive family life.
The seminar also followed publication of the Independent Review of Childcare and Early Education Registration, Regulation and Inspection, which called for a Single Quality Framework for all early childhood provision and increased qualification requirements for early years professionals, as well as the Independent Stocktake of the Foundation Phase which highlighted successes and areas for improvement in the delivery of the Foundation Phase.
Delegates considered the recommendations of these reports, how the roll-out of the National Literacy and Numeracy Framework has affected delivery, and the findings of the Evaluation of Foundation Phase Flexibility Pilot, which was designed to find ways of increasing flexibility in access to the Foundation Phase. The seminar included a contribution from Professor Chris Taylor, the Lead Researcher of Evaluation.
Further sessions included discussion on supporting and engaging parents during the child's early years - including the expansion of Flying Start and how to tackle the rising cost of childcare.
