This conference was an opportunity to discuss the Wales Infrastructure Investment Plan (WIIP), following the release of the next progress report on the programme.
Delegates assessed priorities, challenges and opportunities for infrastructure investment across different areas of Wales, including telecommunications, housing, energy and waste projects and transport.
Planned sessions looked at how to reduce barriers to private infrastructure investment; improve cooperation between governments at EU, UK, Welsh and local level; and challenges including environmental concerns, skill shortages and planning policy - with particular focus on the likely impact of the Planning (Wales) Act 2015, designed to create a more supportive environment for infrastructure developments.
The conference brought together key policymakers from both the Welsh and UK Governments with stakeholders including business groups, developers and construction companies, representatives from the telecommunications industry, financial services sector, utilities companies, trade unions, local authorities, transport companies, environmental groups, charities, academics, lawyers and others with an interest in these important issues.
