The focus of this seminar was the future of policing and crime prevention policy in Wales.
It followed the publication of the Silk Commission's second report, which recommended the devolution of policing to Wales at a time of immense budgetary pressure resulting in significant organisational reform for policing in Wales.
Sessions assessed policing and crime prevention strategies in Wales and the success of partnerships between police forces, local authorities, the Welsh Government and the Home Office particularly around community safety. Delegates also discussed challenges and potential benefits of the increasing use of technology in crime prevention and its impact on frontline policing.
The agenda also examined the future organisation of policing in Wales including the likely implementation challenges and effect of devolving policing, as well as the impact so far and future for Police and Crime Commissioners.
The conference brought key policymakers together with stakeholders in local authorities, citizen groups and community safety groups; police bodies and advisory groups, and the criminal justice system; the security sector and legal firms; businesses with interests in crime prevention and strategy; and academics, commentators and other interested parties.
