The seminar focused on the priorities for apprenticeships in Wales.
Those attending discussed the Welsh Government’s Apprenticeships Skills Policy Plan released in February 2017, which focused on the four key areas of increasing the number of 16-19 apprenticeships, addressing skills shortages, developing higher level skills and developing skills pathways.
Delegates also discussed the progress that has been made so far in implementing the plan and delivering 100,000 apprenticeships and the steps needed to successfully deliver the rest of the plan.
Further sessions on the day considered:
- Assessing the state of skills in Wales - the impact of Brexit and the Apprenticeships Levy;
- Meeting the target of 100,000 apprenticeships - increasing access and maximising benefits;
- Policy priorities for apprenticeships in Wales;
- Strategies for improving awareness and understanding of apprenticeships;
- Ensuring quality apprenticeships and the role of higher and degree apprenticeships; and
- Effective practice in apprenticeships provision - including meeting the needs of learners and employers.
