Policy Forum for Wales

Next steps for curriculum reform in Wales

TO BE PUBLISHED November 2017

As a new curriculum in Wales is developed with involvement from a range of bodies, this timely conference will bring parties together to discuss objectives and priorities for its successful co-construction - with the Welsh Government’s planning for its implementation in schools from September 2018.

Delegates will discuss the reform initiatives and how they might be better aligned; the role of pioneer schools as innovators and developers of curriculum reform; and the policy priorities for turning into reality the vision for curriculum reform in Wales proposed by Professor Graham Donaldson and accepted by the Welsh Government.

Sessions will also consider issues of leadership and direction in the formulation of the curriculum, ensuring that the new curriculum is focused, robust and underscored by clarity and organisational cohesion, engagement with those not directly involved in the curriculum reform process, and opportunities for innovation.

Shortly after every Policy Forum for Wales seminar, a briefing document is produced. This is distributed to all delegates on the day as well as to our policymaker contacts in government, and to stakeholders more widely.

A seminar publication provides a timely record of proceedings, and acts as a guide to the latest thinking on current policy issues for those unable to be at the event.
