TO BE PUBLISHED February 2018
This seminar focuses on school standards in Wales and the development of the National School Categorisation System.
It has been scheduled to follow the release of the 2018 National School Categorisation ratings and will be an opportunity to discuss the effectiveness of the new system in measuring the quality of Welsh education and providing schools, local authorities and regional education consortia with the information and support to improve standards.
Further sessions will focus on the role of regional education consortia in co-constructing the categorisation system and providing tailored support for struggling schools.
There will also be discussion on the Welsh Government’s proposed new performance measures for post-16 education, including the steps necessary for successful implementation and the possible implications for standards within further education.
Coming in the midst of wider reforms to education in Wales, including the implementation of a new curriculum and new teaching standards, delegates will also discuss the state of Welsh education and the links between school standards and educational reforms.
The role of Estyn in upholding school standards, as Professor Graham Donaldson undertakes an independent review on this, will also be considered.
