This conference brought together senior policymakers with key stakeholder perspectives to discuss the future of sports policy in Wales.
It followed the publication of the UK government’s new sport strategy Sporting Future: A New Strategy for an Active Nation, which proposed the creation of a new Sport Cabinet bringing together sports ministers from across the UK to discuss shared issues across sport and physical activity, and was informed by the proposed Charter for Sports Governance in the United Kingdom, and its likely implications for the governance of sport in Wales.
It came ahead of the introduction of a new National Curriculum for Wales, which includes health and well-being as one of its six Areas of Learning and Experience.
Sessions explored strategies for widening access to grassroots sport and encouraging healthy lifestyles.
Further discussion focused on strategies for supporting elite sports and athletes, along with options for promoting Wales as an international sporting destination.
