Next steps for research and innovation in Wales

TO BE PUBLISHED April 2022

Price: £95 PLUS VAT
Format: DOWNLOADABLE PDF

This conference will examine how Wales can continue to boost the capacity, quality, and international reach of its research base, with discussion looking at:

  • the ways in which R&I funding in Wales can be increased
  • next steps for improving links and collaboration between universities and other stakeholders in the research base
  • utilising Welsh R&I to help support recovery from COVID-19

The discussion is taking place following the release of the assessment of the Welsh research base commissioned by the Chief Scientific Adviser for Wales, which praised Welsh R&I for having higher productivity and output levels compared to other nations despite lower levels of research funding and resources, but nonetheless called for an increase in funding.

We are pleased to be able to include keynote contributions from Olivia Harrison, Head of Research, Innovation and Engagement, Higher Education Funding Council for Wales; David Notley, Chief Executive, Impact Innovation & Growth Services and co-Chair, Innovation Advisory Council for Wales; and Kieron Rees, Head of External Affairs and Policy, Universities Wales.
