This seminar assessed the practicalities of achieving the Welsh Government's aim of instilling 'a culture of prudent healthcare' - focusing on providing 'minimum appropriate interventions' and reducing the cost of NHS Wales.
Sessions focused on the challenges and potential benefits of service and process redesign; options for refining priorities and changing clinical practice; strategies for increasing involvement of patients themselves and their communities in public health; and the potential contribution of telehealth and other technologies in reducing costs and increasing efficiency. Delegates also discussed the impact of change on the work of GPs, and on mental health and other specialised services.
Attendees included key policymakers and regulators, with stakeholders including NHS staff, Local Health Board representatives, patient representatives, academics and other interested parties.
